Hero

Hey there! Yes this is my second GaaLee fic so I hope I have improved since my 1st one! I adore this couple and if you’re reading this so do you! Woot! Enjoy! =^.~=

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Snow...it drifted in fat flakes swirling and spinning in a silent waltz in the arctic like surroundings, decorating the gloomy night in sparkling white dust. The lush forest trees were sagging with their burden of the white loads on each branch, hunched over like old men dark and foreboding. Grass was simply a distant memory; the ground was frozen and covered in half foot deep snowfall with the arrival of winter, making travel all but impossible. Well almost.
Gaara walked kicking up the white dust with each step, not headed anywhere in particular simply wandering through the empty surrounding forests of the great leaf village. Gaara usually walked around at night due to his insomnia, he found which time to himself and to be left to his thoughts but it would seem his walk would be cut short due to the cold.
He had arrived a few days prior and had high hopes of leaving sooner but the resent snowstorms made traveling conditions dangerous and honestly suicidal. With such temperatures and terrain one could get lost and freeze to death, not to mention the over whelming possibility of being attacked by sound ninjas. A simple meeting with Konoha’s Hokage about trade between the two villages now seemed to turn to be a two week vacation.
He didn’t want to stay in Konoha to begin with it brought back to many thoughts and regretful memories about a certain green spandex leaf nin. Gaara longed to apologize to Lee but hadn’t got the opportunity…no that was a lie; he just couldn’t work up the courage. He had wanted to approach the young man ever since Naruto beating some much needed sense into him but really what the hell could he say?
‘Oh sorry about turning your arm and leg to mush and attempting to kill you in a hospital bed! Lets be friends!’ His mock voice echoed through his head making the Kazekage wince. ‘Friend’ that was a lie too to he didn’t want to be Lee’s friend he wanted more...much more.
After their fight Gaara couldn’t get Lee out of his mind and in truth that was why he had tried to kill him, he had hoped that once dead he wouldn’t be burdened with the confusing thoughts of the obnoxious nin. Also being extremely angry at Lee for him being protected by Gai, he hadn’t known it then but seeing Lee get so worked up over the older man had made him jealous of their relationship.
Gaara sighed causing a few snowflakes to billow away from his sudden exertion of air. He wanted nothing more then to march up to Lee and tell him everything and just have him for his own. But everyone knew that Gaara simply did not show any emotion or talk about it, the only other person who knew of his obsession with the orange legwarmer wearing shinobi was Naruto.
The damn kyuubi had by chance looked over at him when he had been daydreaming and Gaara had uttered Lee’s name. He had a field day with that.
Flashback 1 year prior
“You like fuzzy eyebrows?!” Naruto had jumped up in shock. Luckily they had been alone due to Naruto showing him around the village and had sat down for a rest.
Gaara had seen Lee earlier that tour, he had been cheering excitedly to Gai that he had found a new and improved curry recipe as the two walked to the training field. Again Gaara had felt the burning stab of jealousy and as he has been resting with Naruto he had let his name slip.
“So?” Gaara set his cold eyes on the ramen loving nin, it was a silent threat and Naruto went silent immediately eliminating all possible room for joking about the situation.
“No reason!” Naruto took a few dramatic steps back putting up his hands in a surrendering gesture. “Have you ever thought of telling him?” He offered turning serious making direct eye contact with the redhead, catching Gaara off guard by such a forward question.
“No and I don’t intend to.” Garra looked away focusing indifferently on the ground in front of him.
“Why?” Naruto sat down once again beside him looking at Gaara sadly. Now this annoyed Gaara that’s one thing he couldn’t stand, sympathy.
“Because it’s hopeless.” He got to his feet and crossed his arms as he walked away from Naruto, leaving the kyuubi to wonder what he had said wrong.
End of Flashback
“And it still is and always will be hopeless.” Gaara shook his head in misery. ‘No one can love a monster especially one who has been it’s victim.’ He thought continuing through the gloom. His mint eyes flashed up at the sudden parting of trees, he had stumbled into a clearing. Gaara frowned as he looked around the open space, a few large stumps rose out of the white blanket of snow to the far side as well as two high posts.
‘Another training ground.’ He thought remembering another place identical to this one on the other side of Konoha. He was just about to turn away and head back due to the cold, when something in the snow caught his eye. It was a small lump, dark incompletion to all of the surrounding white and it lye beside one of the stumps.
Gaara crossed his arms and walked steadily toward it, not making anything of it thinking absently that it was just a falling log or rock. But as he neared he made out a spec of orange material, now he had nearly sprinting toward the ‘would be stump.’ Gaara stopped short in shock thinking his mind was playing a sick joke on him or his lack of sleep had finally drove him completely into insanity, but as he reached out with a trembling hand to touch the lump his imagination was proved to be reality.
“Lee?” He whispered barely audible.
The normally quick paced teen was lying in a heap, curled pathetically in the snow. His black hair was spread about his head and few strands had frost clinging to it. His beautiful onyx eyes were closed almost peacefully, making him appear to be sleeping but the surrounding proved that theory completely improbable.
‘What is he doing out here?’ Suddenly he remembered that Lee was indeed the genius of hard work so regardless if rain, sleet, or snow he would train no matter what. ‘But why is he unconscious?’ Gaara once again let logic take over that with the weather conditions Lee had become weak and without any strength to walk back had thought to sit down to rest only resulting to passing out due to cold and exhaustion.
‘Idiot.’ Gaara mentally growled, angry with the fact that had he not come along Lee would have died. That thought scared the hell out of the Kazekage.
‘He needs to get out of this weather.’ Gaara removed his large black leather jacket and wrapped it snuggly around his object of desire. He then lifted the limp form into his arms, surprised by how light he was and how in his mind, how well Lee molded to his own frame.
Gaara thought of traveling by trees but that was simply impossible, the branches were covered in ice and snow so he would have to go by ground. Though he knew it was a bad time to feel victory he couldn’t help but shake the triumph in him saving Lee again, and not that foolish Gai person.
Gaara started running in the direction of Konoha only to slow down at the realizing he didn’t know where Lee lived. Yes he had stalked the green spandex nin but that was only when he was training and not all that often, due to his important position being needed by his people. But he had never followed Lee home so now he didn’t know where to take him. Then another idea hit him causing a small upturning of the lips in what would be assumed a smile.
Looking down at Lee’s innocent face Gaara make up his mind, he would take Lee to his quarters at Konoha’s Hokage tower and let him rest there till he got better. Perhaps after Lee sees who had been his rescuer (again) and had been so gracious to take his to his dwelling and let him recover maybe…
‘Perhaps it’s not as hopeless as I had thought.’ The Kazekage continued toward the sparkles of golden lights coming from the residence’s homes that was Konoha.
