Dear Friends,

As you all know, I’ve had the Nine-Tailed Demon residing in my body for the past eighteen years of my life, and it has come to my attention that no matter what I do no villager will respect me as an outstanding shinobi or even a real person because of this. I’m sorry to come to this conclusion but I have no choice but to leave for good and possibly never return. I do not plan treachery against Konoha, nor will I be among those who do. I do not know where I will go or where I will end up. Goodbye all, and fair well without me.

Yours Truly,
Uzumaki Naruto

The letter fluttered on the Hokage’s desk The silence in the room was almost too much to bear and Tsunade looked up from the small kunai hole that had been created when the note was found to greet shocked faces of newly elected ANBU, Jounins and Chuunins.

“So dickless finally decided it was time to give up?” A bored voice mused The statement brought all eyes to a black haired man, his onyx eyes flat.

“Naruto wouldn’t be one to give up, Sai.” Kiba roared, suddenly standing up and glaring across the room.

“Sit down, Inuzuka,” Tsunade snapped, standing up and throwing a heady glare towards the ANBU. Sai seemed to roll his eyes at her but from her angle she couldn’t tell.

“Did anyone know of Naruto planning this?” she asked sternly, not giving into the despair she felt for the boy—no, man—she had seen grow up through the pain and hate of others. No one answered her. Sighing she clutched her brow, thinking of a solution. Of course they needed to retrieve him, there was no way he could abandon his village, he belonged here.

“Tsunade-sama—we must bring him back!” Iruka who had been silent through the whole thing started up from the back, worry etched on every line of his face; a hand grabbed his shoulder and pushed him back lightly.

“Take it easy, Iruka-san,” Kakashi said gently. “I’m sure he’s fine.” The grey-haired jounin looked up at Tsunade. The Hokage threw a frown towards the grey-haired Jounin.

“The villagers will know nothing about this and if the council catches wind of it they will no doubt want him hunted down and killed,” Tsunade said. “Further more; I will only have one person looking for him, and one person only.” The Hokage quelled the outraged voices before they even got to start. She couldn’t believe she was going to ask him for help, but he would be the only one capable of getting Naruto back.

“Everyone is dismissed except for Hyuuga Neji. If I hear of anyone disobeying my orders and looking for Naruto I will personally see to it that they are punished accordingly,” she warned, and as they started filing out many protested wildly at the fact no one could look for their friend and comrade, but the Hokage’s word was final. She ignored the comments and merely waited until only Neji stood alone.

“Yes, Hokage-sama,” Neji inquired. She closed her eyes and sighed, again questioning the wisdom of using him; he was still in holding for all the transgressions against Konoha.

“I want you to go to the holding cells and retrieve someone for me.” She said finally. The lilac eyes widened a bit before he nodded.

“Of course.” He disappeared quickly, leaving the woman as she wandered back to her desk. She stared down at the note on the scroll.

“You’re not one to give up, Naruto…” she whispered softly, tucking the scroll away in her cloak quickly.

Black eyes watched the woman stoically, the face showing nothing as the woman explained the situation.

“And what do I get if I retrieve him?” said the man in the dark room, leaning forward to leisurely pull the sake cup to his lips. He downed the burning liquid before he placed the empty cup gently back onto the table. Tsunade pursed her lips, fingers curling together as she eyed the young man.

“You will be allowed to return to the shinobi ranks as Jounin and given a genin squad to train,” replied the Hokage as she poured herself another cup of sake. Kami she needed it when dealing with this man. The glare intensified at the thought of having to train a genin group, but the woman held his gaze steadfastly. The cold black eyes regarded the note that the Hokage shown him then snapped his eyes up to meet the others.

“I’ll go,” he said slowly. The Hokage nodded, relief flooding her system at how easily he had agreed.

“You are allowed to return to the Uchiha grounds to collect whatever weapons and supplies you need.” As Tsunade stood and went to open the door, she turned towards the other man once more, her eyes suddenly narrowed.

“If he is harmed in anyway…” The man’s head snapped in her direction, the eyes turning blood red in his anger.

“Do you think I would let harm befall him?” He sneered. The Hokage regarded him coldly before nodding.

“Leave at dawn,” she ordered before sweeping from room. The Sharingan faded from his eyes swiftly and the Uchiha coolly glanced towards the note, carefully reading it one last time.

“There is something more to this,” he mused dully in the empty room before he too disappeared from the confines of the meeting cell. For the first time in the eight months of his return he stepped outside and was greeted by the familiar sights and sounds of a slumbering Konoha. In a poof of curling black smoke he vanished into the sleeping city.
