To Believe in a Dobe

So yeah. I read a story (who knew?) that kinda sorta (wasn’t exactly) like this. Actually, the only similarity is the word ‘believe’. But the story is where I got the idea.

NOTES: I put ‘the 4th head because I’m too lazy to look up the spelling. This is set after they were put on the same team, but before the Chunin exams.

WARNINGS: Fluffy. Short. Very light Sasu/Naru. A little humor.

To Believe In A Dobe

Sasuke found Naruto sitting on top of the 4th head on Hokage Mountain. Followed/stalked/found. They’re all the same. To Sasuke, at least.

The only reason Sasuke followed/stalked/watched from the shadows/had good intentions/was secretly with Naruto was because it looked like he was having a bad day. A really bad day if the random objects thrown at him and broken windows were any indication. Worse, Sasuke couldn’t do anything about it.

Except the time some guy with a sword tried to attack the defenseless (ok, so Naruto’s not defenseless, but Sasuke noticed that the only time he dodged was when it was something sharp, but Sasuke didn’t want to take any chances) blond. Sasuke left said guy unconscious in an ally. If Naruto noticed this act of kindness, he didn’t show it.

Anyways, back to the present.

“Why Sasuke? Why did you protect me?” a voice whispered out of nowhere.

The Uchiha stepped out of the shadows. “How long?”

“Since I woke up. But you didn’t answer my question.”

“Why didn’t you dodge or block?”

“I wanted, no, I needed to know if someone cared. If someone in this village cared about the monster enough to save it.”

Sasuke walked closer and sat next to Naruto. “A lot of people care.”

“They don’t act like it. No one believes in me. No one believes that I can become Hokage. No one believes that I’ll become anything more than a prankster.” Naruto was close to tears.

Sasuke was about to say something, but was interrupted.

“And you, the Great Uchiha Sasuke, who doesn’t believe in or care about anything - not any of the gods, not people – will be given anything with a snap of your fingers. I, who works so hard to protect the people who hate me, get nothing. Not even one person who really cares.” He could no longer hold back the tears of frustration, and was grateful that it was dark.

“You’re wrong,” Sasuke whispered softly.

“What?”

“I do believe in and care about one thing, but one thing only.”

“What is it?” Was Sasuke actually opening up to Naruto? Mark the day, peoples.

“You.” Sasuke could feel the confusion coming off of Naruto, even though he couldn’t see the blonde’s face. “I believe that you can become more than the village’s prankster. I believe that you can become Hokage. I really care about you.”

Naruto was in shock. “Wow. You said more words in five minutes than you do in one day.”

“One more thing, then I’m leaving.” Sasuke gently turned Naruto towards him, giving a light kiss. Well, it was more of a touch on Naruto’s lips with his own but kiss/light touch of the lips was the same thing to Sasuke. “I love you, Naruto.”

The Uchiha left before Naruto could freak out about him being straight, he was homophobic, or he just didn’t like Sasuke in that way and their friendship was ruined. Or all of them.

If only he had stayed a little while longer, he would have seen Naruto’s shocked expression turn into a smile. “I love you too, Sasuke.” He sighed. “Now I have to go find the bastard.”

Kyuubi smiled (the best a fox could smile, anyways) from within his cage. He doesn’t regret attacking the village, but he does blame himself for causing such an innocent boy so much trouble. But somebody believes.

So…yeah. That’s it.
