Not Alone

"Tell me again why we're doing this?" Raidou asked as he followed Genma through the makeshift hospital. He'd thought he'd seen Kakashi and Iruka leaving it awhile ago. He hadn't been able to get a good look though. Their backs had been turned, and he had been trying to not lose track of Genma.

He wasn't thinking about why they might have been here though since they were leaving. He was much more curious about why his lover had been so insistent on /them/ coming to this place. Then he heard the crying, it sounded so lonely he actually pushed past Genma to go find the source. He was in the little nursery fast, gently picking up the crying baby girl. His last mission had really pushed home how precious children were.

There was a brief moment of pause until he realized the blood red was the color of her hair. He cuddled her against his chest as he turned to face Genma as he came into the nursery. His lover smiled at him and came closer as the crying faded away into soft sniffles when they were both cuddling her.

Raidou looked over at Genma, arching an eyebrow and looking curious now. Genma wasn't trying to get him to move on to another room. He was just standing there with him and touching the girl's cheek.

"This is why I wanted to come here. I was hoping you would agree to us adopting her." Genma murmured, smiling. When the girl reached up with wide violet eyes towards his senbon he twitched it out of her reach, chuckling when her lips pursed in and obvious pout. "Sorry bright eyes. You can't play with one of these for awhile yet."

Raidou looked down at her again. Stroking soft strands of hair and feeling worried about if they could handle it. At the same time he didn't think he wanted to let her go. She was slowly falling asleep as he held her. Her eyes slipping shut as she yawned cutely and clutched at his shirt. Her breathing slowly evened out as she clung to him and fell asleep against his chest.

"You really want to? Do you think, we'll really be good for her? How did you hear that she needed adopted?" Raidou asked, glancing at his lover's face.

Genma nodded. "I know we'll be good. She needs someone to care about her and you know we will. Iruka told me. I met her parents briefly a long time ago through them." Raido watched his lover's face and the emotions there that were drawn out by that statement. He might ask him more about them later if he thought Genma needed to talk about it.

"You're not worried about two shinobi like us raising her?" Raidou asked, cocking his head as he watched him.

Genma shook his head, keeping her cuddled between them. "Yeah, but I'm more worried about Saiya having no one."

Raidou nodded, seeing his point. They could be good for the little girl. Love her as much as possible while they were both there. It wouldn't be easy, but it would definitely be worth it. "Well, we should take her home then." Raidou murmured, handing the little girl to Genma.

The senbon wielder swallowed a bit and cradled her gently. Raidou could see he was already worried over the safety of the sleeping child and it made him smile.

"Yeah, let's go home."
