Daddy's Issue
Chapter One:Like Father, Like Daughter
Ring, ring, ring. Recognising the number immediately Naruto let out a disgruntled sigh before flipping his phone open.
“Hey Iruka, no need to tell me, I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
He flipped the phone closed before the man could answer, grabbed his jacket and headed out of his small home office.
***
Konoha Primary School was the same as he remembered, the hallway walls covered with colourful pictures made by the children, the floor splattered with dry paint. The inviting environment however did nothing for his mood as he approached the office of Iruka Umino.
He gave the door a quick tap before entering. The atmosphere of the room was tense. Iruka was sat at his desk, his back ramrod straight. He offered Naruto a weak smile which Naruto struggled to return as he cast a critical eye over his daughter.
Umeko sat on the small wooden chair, her honey coloured hair was coming out of her ponytail and her green eyes were downcast. Naruto went to sit beside her with a frown on his face. This would be the third time this week he’d been forced to come to see Iruka. It was always the same problem, that problem was currently sat besides his daughter.
Kyoshi Uchiha.
He sat with his father, who was Naruto’s problem. Sasuke Uchiha. The Uchiha had always been Naruto’s problem. With his stupid fast car and his stupid tailored suits and his stupidly styled hair. Not to mention his stupid happy marriage. The Uchiha’s life was perfect and he knew it, the smug fucker. Gritting his teeth Naruto pulled his gaze away from Sasuke to observe Kyoshi.
He sat with his head lowered, dark bangs covering his pale face. And with the glint he’d spotted in his daughters eyes Naruto guessed he’d be sporting a shiny black eye. It scared Naruto how similar he looked to his father, a perfect mini-Sasuke.
Iruka cleared his throat, interrupting Naruto’s musings.
“Thanks for joining us Mr Uzumaki.”
“Iruka you should know by now to call me Naruto. I think we‘ve known each other long enough.”
Iruka smiled again before continuing, “Umeko, I think you should tell your father why he had to join us today.”
“Well daddy, it was all stupid Kyoshi’s fault! He started it, honest. I was doing some math and he called me stupid because I forgot to carry the one so I called him a bastard back, like you always say the Uchiha is a bastard, and he pulled my hair. So then I got really mad and hit him. Then he started crying, can you believe that daddy!? The big cry baby.” She finished her quick explanation with a triumphant grin which quickly dissolved when she saw her fathers frowning face.
Kyoshi was sat with his small eyes balled into tight fists, the black eye was obvious again his pale skin. He was obviously mad but was managing to refrain himself due to his fathers hand resting on his shoulder.
“Kyoshi, would you like to tell us your version of events?” Iruka asked gently.
Kyoshi gave a curt nod and began, “We were paired up in maths and I was helping her, but she was being stubborn and not changing the answer even though I told her she’d forgotten to carry the one. So I said she was being stupid. Then she called me a bastard and I got really mad so I tugged her hair even though I know father would be mad because he said we shouldn’t lower ourselves to the lowlife Uzumaki’s. Then she punched me and I was really mad and it hurt a lot, my eye was watery from where she hit it and she thought I was crying. But I wasn’t!”
Iruka sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose, “Well Mr Uzu-Naruto and Mr Uchiha, this is the third time this week these two have come to blows. What would you have me do?” The tension in the room could have been cut with a knife, making Naruto nervous. He rubbed the back of his head, trying desperately to break the tension, “I guess…kids will be kids?”
If anything the tension grew and Sasuke spat out, “Typical answer from you Uzumaki, completely unable to take responsibility. ”
“As if I’d take advice about raising children from you, everyone knows your family sticks a rod up your children’s backsides the minute they’re born that they can’t take out for the rest of their life.”
Sasuke stood and approached Naruto, looming over where he was sitting.
“What was that about my family Uzumaki?” Naruto stood, unwilling to let Sasuke intimidate him, “Say, where are your parents?”
“Why you son of a-” Naruto saw red, bunching a fist together ready to let it fly.
“Daddy?!” “Father?!”
The voice of the children stopped him in his tracks. He took a few deep breaths to calm him and pointedly ignored the Uchiha’s smirk.
“Mr Uzumaki, Mr Uchiha. A word in private if you don’t mind.” Iruka’s voice was venomous and Naruto was distantly reminded of being nine years old and throwing a water balloon at the man before him.
He heard the chairs scraping across the wooden floor and the kids shoes tapping on the wooden floor, once the door clicked shut Iruka turned on them.
“Sit. Down.”
Both men sat quickly.
“How old are you two?! You should both be responsible men, you have children for goodness sake! What sort of example are you setting for them? Have you considered that their fighting might just be because they’ve picked up on your resentment for one another?”
Naruto couldn’t look Iruka in the eye, even Sasuke seemed embarrassed. Iruka could be right, Sasuke and Naruto had never gotten on, their children would know they hated each other. Were they teaching their kids these bad habits?
“Naruto, you need to speak to Umeko about her temper, hitting another student is unacceptable. If it happens again I will have to suspend her, do you understand? Violence will not be tolerated in this establishment. Something you should be well aware of.”
Naruto nodded remembering his own youth spent in Iruka’s office. He didn’t want that for his daughter, she had her mothers brains and he knew she could go far but her temper was easily roused and always getting her in trouble. She’d definitely gotten his and Sakura’s temper combined.
“Sasuke you need to teach your son patience as well as how to offer criticism in an appropriate way, calling someone stupid for making a mistake is just rude,” Iruka stared down the Uchiha until the man offered a nod, “The both of you need to stop this feud, for the sake of your children.”
Iruka stood then and both men knew it was their cue to leave. Naruto shook Iruka’s hand, bypassing Sasuke completely as he left the office. Umeko was sat on the floor leaning against the wall, Kyoshi was sat nearby worrying his lower lip.
“Umeko, home.”
The short girl trailed behind him as they made their way to Naruto’s car. She was silent for once, obviously waiting for her punishment, Naruto was glad of her silence it gave him time to consider all Iruka had said. He needed to sort this thing out with Sasuke, they were both grown men. Hell Naruto was twenty five, he should’ve dropped this school boy rivalry years ago.
Once the both of them had gotten into the car and Naruto had started the journey home Umeko finally spoke up, “Daddy….I’m sorry.” He heard the pout in her voice.
“Umeko, you can’t go around hitting people. No matter what they say, no matter how upset you are. Sort out your problems with words, okay? You are not a thug. You‘re an eight year old, young lady, you should act like one.”
“Okay daddy…But…Weren’t you going to do that with Mr Uchiha?” The car was silent for a long time, Naruto felt his gut twist. She was right. He’d almost hit Sasuke in front of his daughter. How could he punish her when he was about to do the same? That was it, he needed to sort this Sasuke thing out straight away.
“Yeah sweetie, but I promise it won’t happen again. Now, the punishment,” Umeko let out a groan and Naruto grinned, “You’ve lost your TV privileges, the Nara’s aren’t allowed over for a month and you’ll be going bed early for a week. And, your mother will be hearing about this.”
“Daddy please don’t tell mommy!”
“Don’t worry I won’t, you will.”
Umeko sighed and mumbled something about hating him. Naruto only laughed.

Once Umeko was fed Naruto sent her to go do her homework. Checking the time he knew Sakura would be calling in an hour, giving him just enough time to put his plan into action.
Ring, ring, ring. “Hello, Uchiha household. Ino speaking.”
“Hey Ino, it’s Naruto,” He grinned at Ino’s gasp of surprise, “I have a proposition for you.”
